Marvin (Mato) Tobar, 36, was born and raised in El Salvador. Mato gave his life to Jesus in an unexpected way while surfing one day. He has been serving in ministry for over ten years and has served as a leader with both Christian Surfers El Salvador and Youth With a Mission ELS. While serving with YWAM Mato developed a passion for using soccer to teach children biblical principles and form discipline in their lives. Some of his favorite ministries include building homes for those in need, discipling children and youth and serving marginalized communities in practical ways.
Stacie Fields Tobar, 35, was born and raised in Hartsville, SC but was living in NYC, working as a professional dancer when she felt God’s call to full time missions. Although she has always been present in the church and accepted Jesus as her Savior at seven years old, it was while attending Brooklyn Tabernacle that she truly dedicated her life to Jesus and began to form a real relationship with him. Her ministry passions include working with children, teaching them practical steps to grow in their relationship with Jesus, bringing the joy of dance to girls who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to take classes, creating authentic community with other women and ministering to families.
Mato and Stacie met in El Salvador when Stacie was volunteering for a month with World Race. They celebrated five years of marriage in December 2021. They have a daughter, Chloe, born on Christmas Day 2019 and Lucia born in November 2021.
We arrived in the USA, October 2019 eager to meet our first child and spend some time with Stacie's family. Our plan was to stay for one year raising support and then return to El Salvador. Just like so many families, COVID closed the borders and we were unable to return home. This gave us time to pray and seek God's next steps for us. We were convicted that God was still calling us to full time missions but it was time to take the step of faith and begin our own ministry, after having served with several other ministries previously. But this wasn't a dream that began as a result of failed plans and closed borders. This was a dream that God planted in our hearts before we even began dating (which is a story to tell on its own.)
Now, what was once a dream and some words scribbled in a journal is becoming reality as we move back to El Salvador in August 2024. To join our team, please visit our "Join our team" page.
